We are hiring a Lead Full Stack Java Developer to own the technical direction and delivery of cloud-native applications on AWS, and to lead multiple engineering teams through design, build and release. ***This is a Full time, on-site position with initech Global in Grand Rapids, Michigan*** You will set architecture and engineering standards, write production code alongside your teams, and coordinate work across squads so that features ship on time, securely and at scale. You will report to the Engineering Manager / Director of Engineering and partner closely with Product, Architecture, QA and DevOps.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead cross-functional development teams, setting clear priorities and technical goals for each.
  • Coordinate dependencies, sprint plans and releases across teams so work lands in a consistent, integrated way.
  • Run code reviews, design reviews and technical guilds to raise the bar across all teams.
  • Act as the main technical point of contact for Product Owners, Architects and stakeholders.
  • Design and build scalable, secure full stack applications using Java (Spring Boot) back ends and modern JavaScript front ends (React or Angular).
  • Define microservices and RESTful / event-driven API designs, data models and integration patterns.
  • Architect and deploy cloud-native solutions on AWS using services such as EC2, ECS/EKS, Lambda, API Gateway, RDS, DynamoDB, S3, SQS/SNS and CloudWatch.
  • Own CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure as code (Terraform or CloudFormation / CDK).
  • Apply AWS Well-Architected practices for security, reliability, performance and cost.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 10+ years of professional software development, with strong full stack experience.
  • 3+ years in a Lead Developer or Technical Lead role, including leading multiple teams at the same time.
  • Expert-level Java (11+; 17/21 preferred), Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, Hibernate/JPA and microservices architecture.
  • Strong front-end skills in React or Angular, TypeScript/JavaScript, HTML5 and CSS3.
  •  hands-on AWS experience designing, deploying and running production workloads.
  • Experience with Docker and Kubernetes (EKS) or ECS.
  • Solid knowledge of SQL and NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle, DynamoDB or MongoDB).
  • Experience with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI or AWS CodePipeline.
  • Experience with messaging and streaming (Kafka, SQS/SNS or Kinesis).
  • Strong testing practice with JUnit, Mockito and front-end test frameworks (Jest, Cypress).
  • Proven record of delivering complex projects in an Agile environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred qualifications

  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect (Associate or Professional) or AWS Certified Developer.
  • Experience with serverless architectures (Lambda, Step Functions, EventBridge).
  • Infrastructure as code with Terraform or AWS CDK.
  • Experience with observability tools such as Datadog, Splunk, New Relic or Grafana, Openserach.
  • Experience migrating monolithic or on-premises applications to AWS.
  • Experience managing distributed or offshore teams across time zones.
